Welcome to Michigan Pekingese Rescue.
We are a non-profit organization with the state of Michigan dedicated to the rescue and care of all pekingese dogs in need.
We are notified by shelters throughout MI. and surrounding states when a peke is in need of rescue. Quite often these dogs find themselves in a shelter situation through no fault of their own. Sometimes with the passing of a beloved owner,a divorce,and often times because of a bad choice on the owners part as to the breed of dog they've chosen to become a part of their family.
Pekes are not dogs who "show well" in a shelter environment. They are often sitting cowering in the back of the kennel. Growling or sometimes even snapping at the staff who try to attend to thier needs.
Enter rescue. We know our breed. We know that the snarling,snappy dog in the kennel will likely show a totally different side in a home environment.
Sometimes we are contacted by the owners first. They for a number of reasons can no longer keep their peke and have decided to place them in rescue. We commend them for this decision. It is much better for them to come from a home to a home rather than be put in an animal shelter first.
Our pekes are cared for and loved in foster homes where they stay until a forever home is found.
All rescue pekes are spayed/neutered,brought up to date on vaccines,heartworm tested,and get a dental if needed BEFORE being adopted into new homes.
We require anyone interested in adopting one of our pekes to fill out an adoption application in which 2 personal references and a vet reference must be given.
We need a completed application to make the best match between dog and home.
We want thier next home to be their final home. |
